SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED AT ENGINEERS WEEK BANQUET

Bettendorf, Iowa -  The Quad City Engineering and Science Council presented the following scholarships at the 44th Annual National Engineers Week Banquet held on Friday, February 24, 2006 at at The Lodge Hotel and Conference Center.

Samantha Borkgren -  Moline High School - Moline, Illinois

Samantha Borkgren, daughter of Ted and Brenda Borkgren, is currently a senior at Moline High School with a 4.0 G.P.A. and ranked first in her class of 526 people. She plans to attend the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering and plans to enroll in the accelerated Masters program to get her Masters in 5 years. She is enrolled in the College of Engineering’s James Scholar program.

Miss Borkgren has been active in numerous activities including: Editor in Chief of the Yearbook, Vice President of the Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Captain of the Volleyball Team, and Focus Editor for the School Newspaper.

 

 

Karl Brunso - Pleasant Valley High School - Bettendorf, Iowa

Karl Brunso, son of Tor and Mary Brunso, is currently a Senior at Pleasant Valley High School. He plans to attend the University of Iowa to obtain a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After getting his undergraduate degree, he plans to get his Professional Engineering Certification, get a job with NASA or aerospace company, and then pursue a Masters Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

With his dad in the military, he has lived all over the U.S. including in New York, Colorado (twice), Texas, Georgia, and now in Iowa. He is a member of the National Honor Society along with running on the cross country team and being a high hurdler on the track team. Outside of school, he enjoys mountain biking, skiing – both cross-country and downhill, and hiking. He is an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and has been involved with the Habitat House For Humanity. He also works part-time at McDonalds in LeClaire.

 

 

Kristin Marie Haas - Assumption High School -  Davenport, Iowa

Kristin Marie Haas, daughter of Rose Haas, is currently a Senior at Davenport Assumption High School with a 4.0 G.P.A. and ranked first in her class of 92 people. Next Fall, she plans to attend the University of Notre Dame and pursue a double major in biology and anthropology. She is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.

Miss Haas has been active in many activities including: President of the Red Cross Club, Science Bowl Team Captain, Co-Editor of the School Newspaper and Yearbook, and Vice-President of the Thespian Club. Her other activities include mock trial, tennis, soccer, and Teens for Tomorrow.

 

Gregory Michael Lammers - Assumption High School - Davenport, Iowa

Gregory Michael Lammers, son of Lawrence and Christie is currently a Senior at Davenport Assumption High School ranked first his class of 92 people. With perfect scores on the ACT and SAT, he is a 2006 Presidential Scholar Candidate and National Merit Semi-Finalist. He plans to study Chemical Engineering and wants to eventually research alternative energy. He plans to attend college at Notre Dame, Purdue, or Iowa State University.

Activities he has been involved with include: President of the National Honor Society, Assistant Technology Coordinator, Co-Editor for Yearbook and Newspaper, Science Club, and Spanish Club. He also works part-time as a Library Student Page at the Bettendorf Public Library.
