SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED AT ENGINEERS WEEK BANQUET

Bettendorf, IA -- The Quad City Engineering and Science Council presented the following scholarships at the 39th Annual National Engineers Week Banquet held on Friday, February 23, 2001 at Jumer’s Castle Lodge in Bettendorf.

Andrew Joseph Nahra, Assumption HS, Davenport, IA

Andrew is ranked second in his graduating class at Assumption High School in Davenport, IA. Mr. Nahra is active in a number of organizations including the John Deere & Co. Engineering Explorer Program, National Honor Society, British Auto Club, and served as Chairperson for the Big Buddy/Little Buddy Program. He restored the engine, transmission, and other mechanical components of a 1967 Triumph GT6 with no formal training in automotive mechanics. He has received awards from the National Honor Society, the National Council on Youth Leadership, and others. He plans to study mechanical engineering at Purdue University or Iowa State University.

 

Cecilia Bailey, United Township HS, East Moline, IL

Cecelia is ranked 22nd in her graduating class at United Township HS. Cecilia plans to study Chemical or Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois. She has been active in several organizations including Quad City Scholars, the National Honor Society, and Orchesis. She has received numerous dance awards, the Project Pride Award, and the John Deere Recognition Award 2000 among others, and has been on the honor roll for the past three years. Ms. Bailey has also been active in the community, participating on the Watertown Youth Committee and the Citizen's Advisory Committee 2001, volunteering at the YMCA, and Mt. Zion's Summer School and Bible School.     

 

Ingrid Chris Johnson, Rockridge HS, Taylor Ridge, IL

Ingrid Chris Johnson was awarded one of four Quad City Engineering Science Council scholarships. Ingrid is ranked 10th in her graduating class at Rockridge HS. She has participated in several bands (marching, pep, madrigal, jazz, and summer), Spanish Club, Science Club, Ski Club, and the summer softball league. Ms. Johnson received the Top Ten Academic Achievement Award and writing contest awards and is a member of the National Honor Society, the Honorary Music Society, and participated in the WYSE Academic Challenge. She is also active in the community, serving as a fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Research, soup kitchen server, and LOGOS Buddy for church youth, among others. Ingrid plans to study Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.    

 

Lyndsey Wilkinson, Assumption HS, Davenport, IA

Lyndsey Wilkinson, a senior at Assumption HS, was awarded one of four scholarships given by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council. Ms. Wilkinson is active in the Student Council, track, cheerleading, Student Hunger Drive, and Santa's Knights. She is a member of the National Council of Youth Leadership, the National Honor Society, and has received the MAC All-Academic Award. Academically, Ms. Wilkinson is 13th in her graduating class. She plans to study aerospace engineering at the University of Wisconsin or the University of Colorado.
