SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED AT ENGINEERS WEEK BANQUET

Bettendorf, IA -- The Quad City Engineering and Science Council presented the following scholarships at the 37th Annual National Engineers Week Banquet held on Friday, February 26, 1999 at Jumer’s Castle Lodge in Bettendorf.

Emily_Hebeler.JPG (24394 bytes) Emily Hebeler, Fulton High School, Fulton, Illinois - ISA Scholarship

Fulton High School senior Emily Hebeler was awarded the Instrument Society of America scholarship by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council. Emily is ranked at the top of her graduating class in Fulton, IL. Emily provides leadership in many activities, including academics, music, sports, and the National Honor Society. She has received numerous achievement awards in academics, including being named as an Illinois State Scholar. In the community, Emily serves as an officer in the Students Against Drugs and Alcohol, as well as being active in her church as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the youth group. Emily’s college plans include studying mathematics or engineering at Bradley University, Peoria, IL, or Loyola University in Chicago, IL.

 

John_Nahra..JPG (32571 bytes) John A. Nahra, Jr., Assumption High School, Davenport, Iowa - SAE Scholarship

John A. Nahra, Jr. was awarded the Society of Automotive Engineers scholarship by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council. John is ranked second in his graduating class at Assumption High School in Davenport, IA. He has served as Chief Executive in student government, Co-Captain in sports, Thespian President, and Vice President of Law Explorers. John has received numerous achievement awards, including the Citizenship Award from the DAR, Assumption’s Principle Award, and was a Des Moines Register’s Academic All-State Nominee. He has been featured in the John Deere Journal for Entrepreneurship for his lawn services business. He plans to study architecture or civil engineering. John has been accepted to attend Notre Dame, South Bend, IN and Catholic University, Washington, DC.

 

Marisa_Lazio.jpg (26252 bytes) Marisa C. Lazio, Assumption High School, Davenport, Iowa

Marisa C. Lazio was awarded one of four Quad City Engineering Science Council scholarships. Marisa is ranked top of her graduating class at Assumption High School in Davenport, IA. She serves as an officer in many of her extra-curricular societies / activities in academics, dance, social, and National Honor Society. She is in the "Who’s Who Among American High School" and serves as a mentor to others at Assumption High School. She has been active in "Festival of Trees"; hungry food drives; and programs to promote a drug-free community. Marisa works part time in the office for Cardiovascular Medicine. She has been accepted to major in Biology at Loyola University, Chicago, IL. Marisa wants to have a career in the medical research field and desires to work for the Centers for Disease Control.

 

Matthew_Swanson.jpg (21756 bytes) Matthew P. Swanson, Rock Island High School, Rock Island, Illinois

Matthew P. Swanson, a senior at Rock Island High School and son of Don and Sandra Swanson of Rock Island, was awarded one of four scholarships given by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council. Mr. Swanson is active in the Science Council, wrestling, German, and Environmental Action organizations at Rock Island High School. Matthew has attained the rank of Eagle Scout and in active in the Order of the Arrow. Academically, Mr. Swanson is taking advanced placement classes in preparation for college. He has been accepted by both Augustana College and Southern Illinois University where he plans to study Forestry and pursue a career that will be of benefit to our environment.

The Quad City Engineering and Science Council is an umbrella organization representing 34 technical societies and organizations in the Quad City area with approximately 6,000 associated members. The QCESC is in it's 37th year of operation and is a non-profit organization.
