On December 12, 2009, for the first time, a regional qualifier for FIRST LEGO League (FLL) was held in the Quad Cities at the Putnam Museum in Davenport , Iowa.  FLL is an international program for kids ages 9 through 14, and combines an interactive robotics program/research presentation with a sports-competition atmosphere.

The event was organized by the non-profit Quad City Engineering and Science Council (QCESC) which is an umbrella organization representing 35 technical societies in the Quad City Region with approximately 5,000 total members.
