Senior Engineer of the Year:

Daniel P. Miller, P.E.
Civil Engineer, Stanley Group

Mr. Miller's career at Stanley Consultants has included assignments in southern and West Africa and Jamaica, as well as Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Florida, Arizona, and Utah. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Iowa, Utah, Florida, and Idaho. He has successfully completed projects for the Corps of Engineers (Rock Island, St. Louis, and Jacksonville Districts); the United Nations; Departments of Transportation for Iowa, Arizona, and Utah; the U.S. Coast Guard; county and municipal government entities; and commercial enterprises. In 2002, Mr. Miller was president of both the Quad Cities Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Rock Island Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). His leadership helped to bring those organizations together to work on projects to promote engineering and aid their memberships. To date the organizations have held several joint meetings and co-sponsored an annual Continuing Education Conference. The conference, in its third year running, provides high quality, low-cost opportunities to meet the continuing educational requirements of professional licensure. The day-long, two-track, CEU conference has been attended by more than 100 professionals each year and yielded more than $5000 profit to assist the society's programs.

As past president of SAME, Mr. Miller provides support on several successful endeavors, including the annual scholarship golf outing and the annual Commanders Briefing. Each of these outings netted approximately $2,000. This money went to the scholarship fund, which provides scholarships to engineering or science bound high school graduates. The Post scholarship fund balance now exceeds $125,000 and has been invested in a mutual fund to increase the potential for more and larger scholarships.
