AWARDS ANNOUNCED AT ENGINEERS WEEK BANQUET

Bettendorf, IA -- The Quad City Engineering and Science Council presented the following awards at the 37th Annual National Engineers Week Banquet held on Friday, February 26, 1999 at Jumer’s Castle Lodge in Bettendorf.

Ms. Heather L. Wiese, was presented the Junior Engineer of the Year award for 1999 for her contributions to the scientific and engineering profession and to the local community. Ms. Wiese is employed at the Rock Island District Corp of Engineers and was nominated by the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1996 with a degree in Civil Engineering and as a part of her education was a coop student at the Corps of Engineers.  Currently Ms. Wiese is pursuing a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering and is on the SAME Board of Directors.

 

Steve.JPG (25966 bytes) Senior Scientist of the Year:

Dr. Stephen J. Reynolds, Ph.D., was presented the Senior Scientist of the Year award for 1999 for his contributions to the scientific and engineering profession and to the local community. Dr. Reynolds is an associate professor at the University of Iowa and was nominated by the American Industrial Hygiene Association. Dr. Reynolds received his B.A.- Chemistry from Carleton College, Northfield MN in 1977; his M.S.- Environmental Health from University of Minnesota, Minneapolis MN in 1983; Ph.D.- Environmental Health from University of Minnesota in 1990. He has made contributions to the profession thru his work experience at both the University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa where he is presently employed as an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Medicine & Environmental Health. Dr. Reynolds has shared his knowledge and expertise in agricultural and industrial health with countries in Central and Eastern Europe. He has studied environmental health in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Currently he is working with Slovenia where he taught the first industrial hygiene course in the Fall of 1997. Dr. Reynolds has 48 published works to his name including books, abstracts, and technical papers.

Dale Killen, Hydraulics Engineer at John Deere Harvester Works was presented the President’s Special Service Awards for acknowledgment of his contributions to the Council and the Technical Community in the Quad Cities.  Dale is a Past President of the QCESC.

The Quad City Engineering and Science Council is an umbrella organization representing 34 technical societies and organizations in the Quad City area with approximately 6,000 associated members. The QCESC is in it's 37th year of operation and is a non-profit organization.
