TOP ENGINEER AND STUDENT AWARDS ANNOUNCED

MOLINE, IL -- The Quad City Engineering and Science Council presented the following awards and scholarships at the 35th Annual National Engineers Week Banquet held on Friday, February 21, 1997 at the Blackhawk Hotel in Davenport.

paul.jpg (8005 bytes) Engineer of the Year: Mr. Paul McNamee was presented the Senior Engineer of the Year award for 1996 for his contributions to the scientific and engineering profession and to the local community. Mr. McNamee has nearly 25 years of engineering experience culminating in his current position as President, CEO and Chairman of the Bard of Beling Consultants, a Moline based consulting and environmental services firm. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio. Throughout his career, Mr. McNamee has been actively involved in numerous professional organizations.

Mr. McNamee has also been a very active member within the community. He has served as Director of Renew Moline, Black Hawk College Foundation, and the Moline Public Schools Foundation. He has taken a proactive role in building effective business-academic alliances in the Quad Cities area. In her letter of nomination, Ms. Sally Rigeman, Chair of the Illinois-Iowa Section of the American Chemical Society describes Mr. McNamee's role in developing a summer job shadowing program for high school freshman: "Not only did Paul McNamee agree to do this, he also played a vital role in the success of the entire project".

 

bonnie.jpg (10212 bytes) Illinois $500 Scholarship Winner: Bonnie Riedl, a senior at United Township High School, East Moline, has been selected by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council as their Illinois scholarship winner. Bonnie is the daughter of Robert and Joanne Riedl of Port Byron. Ms. Riedl ranks number one in her graduating class with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. She plans to attend the University of Illinois with an undergraduate plan of study in mechanical engineering She has been active in band, tennis, 4-H, J.E.T.S., was selected on the Quad City Chamber of Commerce Top Ten Student team, and is an Illinois State Scholar.

 

alice.jpg (8485 bytes) Iowa $500 Scholarship Winner: Alice Yao, a senior at Bettendorf High School, has been selected by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council as their Iowa scholarship winner. Alice is the daughter of Albert and Judy Yao of Bettendorf. Ms. Yao ranks number one in her graduating class and has a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average. She plans to attend the University of Iowa and will study biomedical engineering. Alice participates in a variety of activities including sports, music, science, and the National Honors Society. She has achieved a high level of performance in music, sports, and academics, including the 1994 National Award from the U.S. Achievement Academy. Alice has demonstrated good citizenship through her participation in a number of civic activities.

President’s Special Service Awards: Theresa Carpenter, Hydraulics Engineer at the Corps of Engineers , Rock Island District and Patrick Barnes, Senior Quality Engineer at John Deere Harvester Works were presented the President’s Special Service Awards for acknowledgment of their contributions to the Council and the Technical Community in the Quad Cities in 1996.

The Quad City Engineering and Science Council is an umbrella organization representing 34 technical societies and organizations in the Quad City area with approximately 6,000 associated members. The QCESC is in it's 35th year of operation and is a non-profit organization.
